We’re building a rockstar team of brilliant, collaborative, mission-driven individuals who take pride in using their diverse skills to contribute to saving our planet.

Want to join the movement? You can help us solve the most urgent, important challenge facing the world today (and have fun doing it).

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced commercial attorney with expertise in marketing, advertising, and promotional, and consumer protection laws to support our team. This is a high-impact, business-partner role focused on transactional and advisory work.

You will serve as the primary legal partner to our global marketing, creative, brand management, and innovation teams, enabling bold, compliant, and industry-leading campaigns while protecting the company in a highly regulated category.

Essential Job Functions

  • Draft, negotiate, and advise on a wide range of marketing-related agreements including:
    • Agency (creative, media, PR, influencer, and experiential) and production agreements
    • Celebrity, influencer, athlete, and talent endorsement deals
    • Sponsorship, event, music, and sports marketing agreements
    • Joint promotions, co-marketing, and sweepstakes/contest partnerships
    • Digital media, programmatic, and data-licensing agreements
    • Content licensing deals
  • Provide real-time counsel on advertising claims substantiation across all media
  • Support product claims development from a legal perspective and advise on FDA, federal, state, and other applicable legal requirements
  • Review and clear creative assets and packaging proofs
  • Counsel on consumer promotion laws (sweepstakes, contests, rebates, coupons, and loyalty programs)
  • Monitor and advise on emerging regulatory trends (green claims, AI in advertising, synthetic media/deepfakes, influencer disclosure, etc.)
Qualifications & Skills

  • JD and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar
  • 7+ years of marketing/advertising legal experience (mix of law firm and in-house strongly preferred)
  • Significant experience in the food, beverage, CPG, or highly regulated health/wellness categories is required
  • Proven track record drafting and negotiating complex marketing agreements (agency master services agreements, talent deals, large sponsorships)
  • Comfort reviewing scientific substantiation for food and nutrition claims
  • Excellent business judgment and ability to deliver practical, risk-calibrated advice at pace
  • Collaborative, proactive, and able to influence senior marketing stakeholders
  • Ability to stay calm in a fast-paced environment

About the company

Company websiteFood and Beverage Services

We're transforming the global food system by creating better ways to make meat, dairy and fish without using animals -- delicious, good for people, and good for the planet. Our approach: understand what people love about meat, dairy, and fish, and then explore the plant world for specific ingredients that recreate those experiences. In 2016, we launched the Impossible™ Burger: meat made from plants, for people who love to eat meat.

Founded in 2011 by Pat Brown MD, PhD (Stanford Professor Emeritus) and backed by top-tier VCs and visionaries, we’re looking for the very best scientists, engineers, food developers, and business professionals in the world to join our creative, diverse, multi-talented and mission-driven team. We’re here to secure a sustainable future (and have fun while doing it). Come work with us to change the course of history.
