Internship

Engineering

Kickstart your career and seize a unique opportunity to become an intern at the aerospace giant Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, Texas or Atlanta, Georgia.

In collaboration with Lockheed Martin, we are offering you the chance to work on one of the world’s most advanced fighter jets, the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, from February to June 2027. Do not miss your chance to be part of this extraordinary experience - apply now to become one of our next interns!

A prerequisite for applying to this internship is that you are an engineering student enrolled at a Danish university and pursuing a master’s degree at the time of the internship.

Working at a modern high-tech factory requires a diverse range of talents, these include but are not limited to, mechanical engineers, material and process specialists, data scientists, robotics wizards and many more.

The practicalities

The internship is paid and runs from February 1 to June 16, 2027. You will join a group of 10 interns and follow a four-day workweek (10 hours per day), giving you three days off each week.

With the internship being based in the US, you are of course fully proficient in English, both oral and written. You will be exposed to the international culture of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics.

Working within the security industry, it is also important that you have a sound understanding of the importance of company procedures and when to ask before acting.

To experience one of the most advanced production lines in the aerospace industry, you will learn from the best as you participate in projects, interact with mechanics and fellow engineers, and interact directly with the aircraft.

Two types of internships at Lockheed Martin

We offer two different internship opportunities at Lockheed Martin as part of this program. When applying, please indicate which internship you are most interested in and qualified for.

Option 1: AI & Data Science internship

In this internship, you will join an Aero Ops AI Team and work at the intersection of Data Science, AI/ML Engineering, and Computer Science. You will develop, train, and deploy AI solutions across areas such as computer vision, large language models, and robotic systems - supporting the transformation of the F-35 production environment.

Together with your team, you will contribute to projects focused on implementing autonomous and intelligent solutions on the production floor. This role offers hands-on experience with advanced technologies, where you collaborate across disciplines to turn operational needs into real-world AI applications.

Your tasks may include the following:

  • Programming and Application/Software Development using various programming tools (Python, PyTorch, C++, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Jetson)
  • Creative problem solving
  • Convolutional neural networks (CNNs), large language models (LLMs), agentic frameworks, transformers models
  • Robotic systems
  • 3D printing and/or prototyping
  • 3D modeling to which experience with modeling programs such as CATIA, Solid Works, AutoCAD will be perceived as an advantage
  • Light project management of own projects - always in close collaboration with your colleagues and with the opportunity to receive sparring on various aspects

Excellent communication skills, motivation, and a team-oriented attitude are all requirements in this position since you will be working with the different teams to investigate their specific needs and translate these into requirements for the various opportunities.

Option 2: Quality Engineering internship

Put your analytical engineering skills to the test in the Quality Engineering (Wing Assembly) or Quality Engineering (Final Assembly) department. You will support quality improvement projects across F-35 production areas, working closely with Quality Engineers, Inspectors, and Manufacturing teams on the shop floor. You will analyze production data, uncover root causes, perform in-process inspections, and help implement corrective actions to ensure compliance and reduce defects.

Throughout the internship, you will collaborate across disciplines, evaluate process and product performance, and contribute to making production data more accessible. In this position, you will gain hands-on experience with the aircraft and present your results to senior leadership - working directly on the future fighter jet of the Royal Danish Air Force.

Your tasks may include the following:

  • Help identify root causes and associated corrective actions and participate/collaborate with the engineering counterparts on program activities to assure processes and products are compliant to contractual requirements
  • Perform in-process inspections of production assemblies using engineering drawings and manufacturing work instructions
  • Evaluate process/product performance using Product Build Surveillance (PBS) protocol
  • Use programming and analytical skills to support process improvement, including making production data more accessible
  • Brief senior leadership on the status and results of their projects

"Your office will essentially be the entire 1-mile factory floor, where you will have the opportunity to collaborate with mechanics, engineers, supervisors, and management. This internship allows you to apply your engineering knowledge in a real-world setting, which for me was an invaluable experience. It is a chance to contribute to such a dynamic environment and gain insight into the inner workings of the F-35 production and American industry." – Quality Engineer intern (2024) – today, Software Engineer at Terma.
