Overview

Location: Quincy, IL

Pay Range: $16.12 – $24.18 per hour | Based on Relevant Experience

Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (some variability based on departmental needs)

About The Role

As a Laboratory Assistant at Quincy Medical Group, you will play a critical role in supporting laboratory operations and patient care. You'll assist with specimen collection, processing, and documentation, ensuring accurate and timely results for providers and patients. This position provides hands-on experience in a clinical laboratory setting while contributing to efficient and high-quality lab services.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collect patient specimens including blood, urine, and other samples following proper protocols.
  • Accurately label, process, and prepare specimens for analysis or transport to reference laboratories.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests and point-of-care testing as directed.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and inventory, including calibration, cleaning, and proper storage.
  • Document results, maintain accurate records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system, and ensure compliance with all regulatory and quality standards.
  • Follow infection control, safety, and hazardous waste procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Support laboratory workflow by assisting with data entry, report preparation, and specimen organization.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients and clinical staff, including patient preparation for lab procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support laboratory and clinic operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • CPR certification required (available upon hire).
  • Prior experience in a laboratory or clinical setting preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and specimen handling protocols a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Comfortable working with patients and performing repetitive or precise tasks in a fast-paced environment.
