About The Role

We are seeking a high-calibre, forward-thinking Unit Manager to lead operations at Batts Combe Quarry. This is a pivotal leadership role with full accountability for delivering excellence across safety, environmental performance, cost control, quality, and customer service.

As a key leader on site, you will drive operational performance day-to-day while embedding a culture of continuous improvement. You’ll inspire and develop your team, enhance efficiency, and ensure the site consistently performs at the highest possible standard.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Unit Manager, you will lead, direct and develop the operational team to achieve key business objectives, with a focus on:

Health & Safety

  • Champion a culture of safety excellence in line with Heidelberg Materials’ Health & Safety Plan
  • Drive continuous improvement and ensure the highest safety standards are met


Environmental Performance

  • Operate in line with environmental management plans
  • Lead initiatives to improve environmental impact and sustainability


Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with all statutory legislation and company regulations


Operations

  • Deliver optimum production levels aligned to commercial demand
  • Improve operational efficiency while controlling costs


Distribution & Customer Service

  • Collaborate with logistics to maximise service levels
  • Ensure efficient and effective product delivery


Quality

  • Work closely with technical teams to maintain the highest product standards


Business Performance

  • Analyse operational data to identify opportunities for profit improvement
  • Support strategic decision-making through accurate reporting


Leadership Responsibilities

Resource Planning

  • Ensure teams are well-resourced, trained, and developed
  • Drive succession planning and career progression across the team


Leadership & Direction

  • Provide clear direction and inspire high performance

About You

  • Proven leadership experience within quarrying, aggregates, or a heavy industrial environment
  • Strong operational and commercial awareness
  • Passionate about safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement
  • Excellent people leadership and development skills
  • Data-driven with a focus on performance and results
  • NVQ/QCF Level 5/7 in SHE quarry operations
