About Kentucky State University Aquaculture Research Center
The School of Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences at Kentucky State University is a national leader in aquaculture education, research, and outreach. As the only aquaculture program at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU), and one of the most comprehensive in the nation, we are committed to advancing sustainable aquaculture and aquatic resource management.
Our program offers graduate education, hands-on training, and research opportunities in areas such as fish health, nutrition, genetics, water quality, aquaponics, and recirculating aquaculture systems. Students benefit from a strong foundation in science, practical experience, and mentorship that prepares them for careers in academia, government, industry, and beyond.
At the core of our program is the Aquaculture Research Center (ARC), a state-of-the-art facility that supports innovation in freshwater fish production and aquatic systems. Our faculty are internationally recognized for their work in improving aquaculture practices and promoting environmental sustainability.
We also serve the wider community through our extension and outreach programs—providing training, resources, and technical support to producers and educators throughout Kentucky and across the country.
The School of Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences is dedicated to creating a more sustainable future through education, research, and service. Whether you’re a prospective student, researcher, or industry partner, we welcome you to be part of our mission.
