Overview

About Knepp Wildland Foundation

The Knepp Wildland Foundation has been established to restore fully functioning ecosystems across Sussex, England, and beyond. We’ll use the lessons learned from the pioneering Knepp Wildland Project to provide the evidence, knowledge and inspiration to support nature recovery at scale.

Our initial focus will be on creating a wild corridor across Sussex called Weald to Waves. By 2025 we aim to have agreements in place for a 100 mile nature corridor running from Ashdown Forest, via Knepp, to the marine kelp forests at Climping Gap, and to have inspired communities across Sussex to make the places they live wilder. We aim for the corridor to become a national exemplar of landscape scale ecological restoration in practice.

We will work to spread knowledge and evidence around nature recovery in action through scientific studies and creative storytelling. We will test the use of open data platforms to make Knepp’s evidence available to a wider range of students, researchers and policymakers.

We will also invest in the next generation of ecologists, offering training in the science of rewilding, providing residential placements, and offering support bursaries for young people otherwise unable to access fieldwork.
