Overview

About KOTRA Kolkata

KOTRA serves as a Trade Investment Promotion Organization under the patronage of the Government of South Korean, in conjunction with the Commercial Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. KOTRA Kolkata represents one of the 129 international branches established globally.

Since its inception in 1962 as a cornerstone of Korea's first 5-year Economic Plan, KOTRA has been instrumental in creating new export markets and enhancing Korea's trade value, which hit the $1 trillion mark in 2011. During the late 1990s, the agency contributed to Korea's recovery from the Financial Crisis by initiating its foreign direct investment promotion division. Over the past fifty years, KOTRA has significantly aided Korean companies in their global expansion efforts.

In anticipation of a swiftly evolving market landscape, and leveraging Korea's extensive Free Trade Agreement (FTA) network, KOTRA is dedicated to the globalization of SMEs—the cornerstone of the Korean economy—by offering tailored assistance for establishing global businesses and facilitating exports.

KOTRA is enhancing Korea's trade sector by boosting exports in emerging industries, including knowledge services, medical biotechnology, and the green sector. The cultural phenomenon known as the Korean Wave is also generating significant economic impact through its high export value. KOTRA's support for these sectors aids in the economic advancement of Korea and developing nations by fostering technological innovation, establishing industrial infrastructure, and nurturing human resources.
