About Mips® for safety helmets
Mips has teamed up with some of the leading safety helmet and personal protective equipment (PPE) manufacturers to include our patented low-friction safety systems in construction helmets and hard hats. The goal is to improve head protection by reducing harmful rotational motion caused by an angled impact from a worker falling or being struck by a falling object. In certain angled impacts, Mips® safety systems can reduce harmful forces that may otherwise be transmitted to the head.
Rotational management - This is the reason Mips exists. We have done the research. We have the data. Studies show that in the majority of cases when a person falls their head hits the ground at an angled impact. The same applies when a collision or contact with an object occurs. These scenarios are more likely to happen in high-risk professions, including on construction sites. These angled impacts can cause harmful rotational motion to the head. A Mips® low-friction layer inside a helmet or hard hat allows multi-directional movement of 10-15mm on certain angled impacts, intended to help reduce the rotational force to the head.
