About NC Center for Health and Wellness (NCCHW) at UNC Asheville

The North Carolina Center for Health and Wellness (NCCHW) at UNC Asheville supports the health of people across the state by serving as a catalyst for primary prevention and health promotion. Health equity provides an anchor for all the NCCHW work.

NCCHW works to impact policy, build capacity, and ignite community initiatives by working through a web of cross-sector partnerships organized around building healthier places throughout the state. Our work collectively improves health outcomes for historically marginalized populations statewide and builds systems to support the inclusivity and decision-making abilities of these underserved populations long term. NCCHW is fully funded through federal and state grants, foundation funding, contracts, and made possible with UNC Asheville’s support.

The Culture of Results initiative provides training and support to assess opportunities, impact, and improve programs and systems statewide. The Healthy Aging NC initiative supports multi-sector agencies statewide to offer evidence-based programs and increase access to health promotion and disease management resources. The WNC Health Policy Initiative informs strategies for improving the health and well-being of people in Western NC through scholarship, collaboration, policy development and advocacy.

NCCHW works collaboratively to conduct research, advocate for policy improvements, develop programs, support/train the health workforce, and communicate about health with a variety of community partners addressing all aspects of health. NCCHW engages with UNC Asheville faculty and students to support training in health workforce opportunities, encourage students to promote a culture of health on campus and expand health promotion and public health in the communities they serve.
