About NSW Smart Sensing Network

The NSW Smart Sensing Network (NSSN) is an Innovation Network funded by the NSW Government through the Office of the NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer. Our role is to bring together universities, industry and government to translate world-class research into innovative smart sensing solutions which create value for the economy, environment and society of NSW and beyond.

Our network provides access to multi-disciplinary expertise from leading universities including Macquarie University, UNSW, University of Newcastle, UTS, University of Sydney, UTS, University of Wollongong and ANU.

Our vision: NSW is home to a thriving ecosystem for smart sensing innovation.

Our mission: to accelerate solutions to complex and critical challenges by translating world-class smart sensing research.

Our projects focus on five key areas: Net Zero, Environment & Agriculture, Human Health, Natural Hazards and Smart Places.

Smart sensors work by detecting change in the environment around them. This technology provides data that gives insights, allowing us to make informed decisions. Sensors that are wireless, distributed and networked are powering the Internet of Things, Industry 4.0 and Smart Cities. Smart sensors play a critical role in solving problems in energy, resources, manufacturing, the environment, transport, agriculture, space and health.
