About Ohio Department of Veterans Services
The Ohio Department of Veterans Services (ODVS) is a cabinet agency that works to actively identify, connect with and advocate for Ohio's veterans and their families. ODVS partners with county veteran service commissions, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and veterans service organizations, in order to "serve those who have served".
Priorities include; caring for Ohio's wartime heroes and connecting veterans with jobs, education, benefits and services.
Some of ODVS's major components include:
• Operating the Ohio Veterans Homes in Sandusky and Georgetown which are open to Ohio-resident veterans who served in periods of armed conflicts.
• Building relationships with Ohio employers and providing training to improve processes for hiring and retaining veterans.
• Providing training and oversight to the 88 County Veteran Service Offices (CVSOs).
• Working with the Ohio General Assembly and Congressional representatives to advocate in support of veterans and their families at the state and federal levels.
• Administering the Ohio Veterans Bonus.
• Managing two federal education-related programs: Troops to Teachers and the State Approving Agency.
• Hosting the Governor’s Wreath-Laying Ceremony to honor Ohio’s killed in action and the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
