Outside In Art

Outside In is a national charity providing a platform for artists who face significant barriers to the art world due to health, disability, social circumstance or isolation. Celebrating the diversity of talent from artists outside the mainstream, the charity’s ambition is to create a fairer art world challenging definitions as to who is an artist and what constitutes art.

Outside In was founded in 2006 as the flagship outreach project for Pallant House Gallery in Chichester. In 2013, Outside In won the prestigious Charity Award in the Arts, Culture, and Heritage category. Following celebrations to mark a highly successful first decade, Outside In became an independent charity in April 2017. In 2018 Outside In became an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation.
Since its inception in 2006, Outside In has engaged with more than 5,000 artists traditionally excluded from the art world, reached a quarter of a million audience members and partnered with more than 100 organisations nationally and internationally. It has held more than 50 exhibitions to date, and currently provides opportunities and support for more than 3,000 artists.
