Overview

About Painted Wolf Foundation

Our goal is to double the number of painted wolves in three decades.

The Painted Wolf Foundation is a non-profit conservation organisation aiming to reverse the downward trajectory of the endangered painted wolf (Lycaon pictus) across the whole of Africa.

Just over a century ago, there were several hundred thousand painted wolves across most of sub-Saharan Africa. Today only 6,500 remain in a few isolated pockets making it Africa’s most persecuted predator.

Our aim is to double their numbers by 2055 which will remove the painted wolf from the edge of extinction.

To achieve this, we have developed a three pillared strategy that:

Protects existing populations
Reclaims old territories for them to occupy
Develops collaborative initiatives that benefit all painted wolves

The Painted Wolf Foundation has created the Painted Dog Fund in partnership with the Wildlife Conservation Network (WCN). This is a funding mechanism managed by PWF, that raises and deploys funds for projects and initiatives that protect the painted wolves across Africa.

The Painted Wolf Foundation is a charity registered with the Charities Commission of England and Wales. It was founded in 2018 by Peter Blinston, Executive Director of Painted Dog Conservation, Nicholas Dyer, award-winning wildlife photographer and entrepreneur and the late Diane Skinner, megafauna specialist and pioneering community conservationist.
