About PolyU School of Nursing
The School of Nursing (SN) of PolyU is a diverse community of scholars and clinicians with a common goal: to pursue academic excellence of practical value in nursing and healthcare services. We realize knowledge, technology and clinical care practice changes rapidly with the ever changing society, thus we have a close linkage and partnership with industry and professional community.
SN has been preparing outstanding students for challenging careers in nursing for around four decades. The School (formerly known as the Department of Nursing and Health Sciences) was founded in 1977 and was HK’s first tertiary educational institution to offer a degree programme in nursing. We launched:
• The 1st Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Nursing programme in 1990
• The 1st Master of Science in Nursing programme in 1997
• The 1st Pre-registration Master of Nursing programme for graduates from other disciplines in 2008
• The 1st Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Mental Health Nursing programme in 2009
• The 1st Master of Science in Mental Health Nursing programme in 2015
To facilitate teaching, demonstration and return-demonstration, our laboratories are equipped with state-of-the art facilities and furnished as hospital wards for nursing practice. As the first nursing school to introduce nursing therapeutics in Chinese medicine to nursing programme in 2000, we set up a specialized laboratory, The Yuen Yuen Institute Chinese Medicinal Nursing Laboratory, designed for the study of traditional Chinese medicinal nursing.
Our research mission is to advance evidence-based nursing practice for the optimal health and well-being of all in the global community. The School provides a nurturing environment and a platform for research activities and intellectual exchange.
QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 show that PolyU's School of Nursing ranks 16th in the world which recognizes the School’s international reputation and research impact in tertiary nursing education.
