About Center for Southeast Asian Social Studies UGM

The Center for Southeast Asian Social Studies (CESASS) at Universitas Gadjah Mada is a research institute focusing on social issues in Southeast Asia. Established in 1986, CESASS plays a crucial role in advancing knowledge through research, education, and community service. It critically examines Southeast Asia’s dynamic history, pluralism, and the evolving role of ASEAN while encouraging diverse perspectives beyond the dominant ASEAN narrative. Recognized as a Center of Excellence in social studies by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia, CESASS has been instrumental in global collaborations, including the World Class Professor (WCP) program, ASEAN+3 Seminar and Student Camp Program, International Summer Courses, and many more.
