Overview

About Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety

More than 1.2 million people die each year on the world’s roads, making road traffic injuries a leading cause of death globally. Most of these deaths are in
low- and middle-income countries where rapid economic growth has been accompanied by increased motorization and road traffic injuries. As well as being a public health problem, road traffic injuries are a development issue: low- and middleincome countries lose approximately 3% of GDP as a result of road traffic crashes.

The Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety is an umbrella organization that represents over 190 NGOs active in road safety in more than 90 countries.
The Alliance mobilizes and empowers NGOs from around the world. Together we act to make roads safer for all and advocate for road victims’ rights.

The aim is to increase NGOs’ contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and the overall objective is to build capacity to strengthen the quality and impact of the work of Alliance member NGOs on community mobilization, behavior change, media coverage, and legislative change.

The Alliance started in 2009 and since then has been working and funding high impact projects in more than 30 countries.
