About Institute for Social Research

Since its founding in 1950, The Institute for Social Research has produced knowledge and high-quality research for the advancement of society. Always aspiring to be more than a specialist hub for a single social branch, the Institute fosters collaboration across the social sciences. We are committed to creating an environment for engagement and partnership that inspires innovation and new ideas.

Today, our research comprises and connects all social sciences, while we also expand deeper and further into emerging fields. Central research areas include Work and Welfare, Equality, Inclusion, Migration, Politics, Democracy, Civil Society, Welfare Policy, and Politics.

The Institute operates in its historic home at Munthes gate 31 in Oslo, Norway.
