About Stichting Nationale Boomfeestdag (Dutch National Tree Foundation)

The Dutch National Tree Foundation was raised in 1957 by the former Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature Management and Fisheries, as a response to the call out from United Nations, asking all Member States of the United Nations to strive for an annual “World Festival of Trees”. This was raised due to the enormous worldwide disforestation in the mid-fifties, causing erosion resulting in desert-like situations in various already fragile ecosystems around the world.

The Dutch National Tree Foundation aims to address children and their parents, in a positive educational and enthusiastic way, informing them about the value of trees, their functions, their positive impact on people and the climate as well as their need for protection. Every year more than 100.000s of children plant over 200.000 trees and shrubs in our country.

Children are the adults of tomorrow and if we succeed in getting them closer to nature, we also enable them a better future. During the last 60 years the Dutch youth, has, yearly, planted over 10 million trees and shrubs in more than 350 municipalities.
