About Technology & Innovation Platform of NCCR PlanetS
The Technology & Innovation Platform of the NCCR PlanetS fosters technology transfer, innovation and partnerships with cutting-edge industry for its research institutes in Planetary science.
The discovery of the first planet outside our solar system by Swiss astronomers in 1995 sparked a revolution in the field of astronomy. Not only did it help us to understand how planets are formed and evolve, but it also contributed to the development of instruments dedicated to the discovery of further exoplanets. By combining astronomical observations, measurements of solar system bodies using spacecraft, laboratory work and theoretical modelling, the NCCR "PlanetS – Origin, Evolution and Characterisation of Planets" aims to contribute to a better understanding of planets.
The NCCR PlanetS was established by the SNSF in June 2014, and brings together researchers from the Universities of Bern (leading house), Geneva (co-leading) and Zürich, as well as the ETHZ.

The Technology and Innovation Platform integrates the various PlanetS projects with specific R&D. It offers the possibility to investigate the use of new technology, develop or adapt it for the specific project (see e.g. seed funding and partnerships). Finally, it promotes knowledge and technology transfer across research institutes and industrial partners.
