About The Opentree Foundation
About The Opentree Foundation —Development through Play:
“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken [adults].” —Frederick Douglass
The Opentree Foundation is a Mumbai-based non-profit founded in 2004, which uses play as a transformative tool to impact the wellbeing, learning and holistic development of children from low-income communities. Our journey is rooted in the belief that play provides the most optimised environment for children to learn and grow, and that by empowering children, educators, community leaders and policymakers through play-based learning, we can transform the future of our country and society.
We work with 1,50,000 children across 12 districts of Maharashtra through our flagship project Toybank. Toybank’s Life Skills Play Programmes are implemented in more than 500 Play Centres, set up in Government and low-income semi-government schools, and Government and Non-government CICs (Child in Institutional Care) NGOs, and CBOs (Community based Organizations).
