SISU is a project that redefines the experience of adversity in personhood from a barrier to a catalyst for deep transformation and opportunity. Through working directly with young women who have gone through crisis intervention and come to the point of questioning the meaning of the experience in the context of their lives. SISU projects support young women to recognise the skills they developed in coming through the experience, i.e. resilience, agility, strength, and harnesses these skills through various SISU projects, whilst instilling empowerment, trust and confidence, to elevate women to believe in their capabilities, envisage their dreams and action their aspirations.
SISU works to ensure not only that adversity or disadvantage does not hold young women back in education and employment, but that transformational adverse experiences are recognised as potential for the discovery of one’s true purpose, enabling young women to make great change in theirs and others lives, and shift systemic structures of gender and other inequalities.
