Overview
About Trailfunds
Trailfunds is a nonprofit digital platform built to connect everyday outdoor users directly with the organizations that build, maintain, and protect our trails.
Across the United States, there is an estimated $24 billion backlog in trail maintenance and infrastructure needs. Trail stewardship organizations work hand in hand with land managers like the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management to plan, construct, and maintain our public trail systems. Projects like the Palisade Plunge, which took nearly a decade to complete, reflect the scale, complexity, and persistence required to deliver world-class trail infrastructure.
Yet most of this work is powered by volunteers and chronically underfunded organizations.
Trailfunds exists to change that.
Through our platform, users can:
• Discover trails and trail projects
• See recent stewardship work and on-the-ground impact
• Donate directly to verified local organizations
• Support the trails they care about most
We route donations directly to 501(c)(3) trail and stewardship organizations, ensuring that 88% to 93% of every donation goes straight to the field. In parallel, we’re building transparent reporting tools that help organizations document, visualize, and share their work with the public.
Trailfunds is a neutral, open platform built to strengthen trust, visibility, and long-term funding for the people doing the work on the ground.
Use the trails. Know the work. Support the mission.
