About U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District
Headquartered at historic Fort Norfolk – one of the best-preserved forts from the war of 1812 -- the Norfolk District plays a sweeping vital role in the development and growth of the nation in peace and in war.
For more than 200 years, the Corps has supported the nation’s river-based commerce, protected established population centers, provided disaster response and constructed military facilities to protect our shores. Today, the 400 civilians and U.S. Army officers of the Norfolk District continue to serve the Commonwealth and the Nation as part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the world’s largest public engineering, design and construction management agency.
