About UTMB Faculty Group Practice
The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) Faculty Group Practice (FGP) is comprised of over 950 faculty physicians and advanced practice providers who drive UTMB’s mission of improving health by delivering innovative education and training, pursuing cutting-edge research, and providing the highest quality patient care. UTMB Faculty are distinguished leaders in medical research and clinical care with more than 180 active clinical trials and care provided across four medical campuses and 100 outpatient clinics.
UTMB first opened its doors in 1891 as Texas' first academic health center. Today, UTMB has four medical campuses, five health sciences schools, six institutes for advanced study, a Level 1 Trauma Center and a health system offering a full range of primary and specialized medical services spanning the Texas Gulf Coast. Beyond its distinguished academic programs and clinical departments, UTMBs unique footprint includes more than 20 clinical care and research centers, an expansive research enterprise with one of only two national laboratories dedicated to the safe study of infectious threats to human health, Polar Medical Operations, an accredited Aerospace Residency Program and Correctional Managed Care for the State of Texas. UTMB employs over 15,000 staff and faculty team members and is an institution in the University of Texas System and a member of the Texas Medical Center.
