About Center for Virtual Care Value and Excellence (ViVE)

The NIH-funded Center for Virtual Care Value and Excellence (ViVE) is a pioneering national initiative proposed to revolutionize translational research in virtual care (VC) by creating a centralized and integrated research hub. ViVE aims to transform research findings into practical VC solutions. ViVE builds on prior achievements to develop and validate VC frameworks, data collection instruments, and comprehensive studies on patient and provider experiences, health access, and the financial benefits of VC.

Positioned in a prominent academic medical center, UNC is uniquely equipped to tackle significant scientific challenges in VC access and value, thanks to its collaborative and thorough investigative approach. ViVE's mission is to establish a robust foundation for the widespread adoption and dissemination of VC research capabilities, both within UNC and externally. The initiative is set to drive health access improvements by enhancing value-based health delivery models. This will be accomplished by identifying VC needs of key stakeholders, developing and validating evidence-based models, and promoting comprehensive VC access and value research through widespread dissemination and workforce development. Currently, the absence of a dedicated research hub for VC health access and value limits the effectiveness and sustainability of VC programs, a gap ViVE is determined to fill through its targeted aims.
