About Washington State Department of Corrections
The Department of Corrections (DOC) is Washington’s second-largest human service agency. We maintain approximately 9,400 FTEs. Our strategic priorities guide our department’s direction and decision-making. Everything we do is geared toward creating safer communities.
DOC promotes public safety, teaches personal responsibility and accountability, treats incarcerated individuals fairly and equitably, promotes a positive work ethic by providing incarcerated individuals opportunities for self-improvement and provides for restitution.
DOC operates 11 prisons, 13 reentry centers (formerly referred to as work releases) and 86 community field offices. These facilities serve and support 13,800 incarcerated individuals, 13,000 individuals under court-ordered supervision and an additional 900 people in partial confinement.
