About Waringarri Aboriginal Arts

Waringarri Aboriginal Arts is a living, growing art centre celebrating the uniqueness of Miriwoong cultural identity.

Established in the late 1970s, in the heart of Miriwoong country at Kununurra in the East Kimberley region of northern Australia. Waringarri is the first wholly indigenous owned art centre established in Western Australia and one of the oldest continuously operating art centres in Australia supporting economic independence for artists and their community.

Building on a timeless artistic tradition, Waringarri artists express the importance of Country and culture through contemporary art practices. The art centre supports more than 100 artists as painters, printmakers, wood carvers, boab engravers, sculptors, ceramic and textile artists.

Since 2009, Waringarri Arts has supported and co-managed Kira Kiro Artists, a remote art centre in Kalumburu, the northernmost community in Western Australia.

Waringarri Art and Culture Tours compliment the visitor experience with a rich insight into Miriwoong culture. As a member of the Tourism Australia’s Discover Aboriginal Experiences collective, Waringarri Arts is recognised as one of the leaders in Australian Indigenous tourism.

Waringarri Arts is a not-for-profit organisation, with all proceeds from art sales, art commissions and cultural tourism returned to the community to support the ongoing program of arts and cultural projects.
