A #record 274 #climbers successfully summited #MountEverest via Nepal in a single day, marking the highest number of ascents ever recorded from the mountain’s southern route.
The milestone was achieved on Wednesday during a favorable weather window after delays earlier in the season caused by a massive ice blockage along the climbing route.
The previous record was set on May 22, 2019, when 223 climbers reached the summit from Nepal’s side of Everest.
This year, Nepal issued nearly 500 climbing permits for Everest, also a record high, raising renewed concerns over overcrowding, safety risks, and congestion in the mountain’s dangerous “death zone,” located above 8,000 meters.
Photos shared on social media showed long queues of climbers navigating narrow icy sections near the summit, where oxygen levels are critically low and most mountaineers rely on supplemental oxygen.
The record climb once again highlights Everest’s growing popularity while reigniting discussions around sustainable mountaineering, climber safety, and environmental pressures in the Himalayas.
