Fisher Island residents thought the island's last major development site was headed for a luxury reset. Developer HRP bought the 9.6-acre property late last year for $180 million and agreed to demolish the century-old fuel bunker, clean up the land and build luxury condos.
What residents say they didn't know: HRP was negotiating a $400 million deal with Miami-Dade County that could keep the fuel depot in place.
Now, the Fisher Island Community Association and Fisher Island Club are suing, alleging HRP is trying to sidestep its promise — and leave one of the country's richest enclaves beside 28 million gallons of combustible fuel.
