Following Monday's 4 Corners investigation into police behaviour, Asst Police
Following Monday's 4 Corners investigation into police behaviour, Asst Police Commissioner Peter Cotter was interviewed yesterday and verbally committed to a change in NSW Police protocols, to make it mandatory for police officers to turn on their bodycam.
"When we're going to be using force or using a power, yeah, they will be switched on and recording," he said. https://bit.ly/4uMDKfh
We welcome this intention to improve transparency and promote accountability (recommended by the LECC for some time!) but we need to see the formal commitment and a subsequent change in behaviour.
Bodycam footage is only a small part of the solution. The programme concluded that there is a cultural issue within NSW Police that needs to be addressed. We need to see much more.
