Protect Our Future: The Urgent Call for Regenerative Farming by 2050
☕ By 2050 you won't have coffee, chocolate and other essential foods if we keep farming like this.
The UN warns that 90% of Earth's topsoil could be degraded by 2050. Topsoil takes 500 years to form. We're destroying thousands of years of biology in a single generation, sometimes overnight.
Everything you eat lives in 30 cm
Every vegetable. Every fruit. Every grain. Your chocolate and your coffee. All of it grows in the top 30 centimeters of soil.
Conventional agriculture mines that layer. Heavy tillage, synthetic fertilizers and pesticide dependent monocultures strip it bare. Each harvest takes more than it gives back.
This is not the farmer's fault
The system pushes farmers into it. The whole biological infrastructure of our food supply is being drained to keep a broken model running.
2050 is closer than it sounds
I'll be alive. You probably will too. If not, your children and grandchildren will be. The UN isn't only warning about weather. It's warning about whether there's food on the table. And no dream survives an empty stomach.
The good news: regenerative farming runs in reverse
It rebuilds soil instead of depleting it. And you fund one system or the other every time you shop.
• Buy from regenerative organic farmers
• Buy from biodynamic farmers
• Buy from agroecological farmers
• Each purchase invests in a food system that still works in 2050
Call it self interest. You need this soil as much as your grandchildren will.
I've made dozens of posts with exactly this message, so forgive me for repeating myself. It's the only thing that really matters, and I won't stop until we turn this around fast. Neither should you.
Chapter five will change how you see food. Permanently. 🌳
