Who are the quantum winners of tomorrow?
In our last post, we highlighted a hard truth about quantum: while the hardware is maturing, the academic software, brutal hardware obsolescence, and fragile supply chains are stalling enterprise adoption.
Those exact friction points are where we at OpenOcean are hunting for the next wave of category-defining companies. What we’re looking for:
⚙️ Orchestration middleware: We want software that lets enterprise IT teams treat a QPU just like any other scheduled compute resource.
🎯 Hyper-focused applications: We’re looking for startups dominating specific, defensible niches where increasingly powerful classical models simply cannot compete. We suspect this will happen in scientific computing and optimization problems across a range of industries, from logistics to biotech.
⛏️ The picks and shovels: We’re excited by the enabling layer comprising cryogenics, photonics, control electronics, and modular interconnects. These startups serve the entire ecosystem, scaling regardless of which underlying hardware architecture ultimately wins the race.
We backed IQM Quantum Computers at the pre-seed stage. This year, as they go public as Europe's hardware leader, we’re actively funding the infrastructure that will make that hardware universally viable.
If you’re building the tools to turn quantum potential into operational reality, let's talk!
