Have you ever wondered about the impact one action can have?
Do you remember a time when a stranger was kind to you?
Do you remember a time when you were kind to a stranger?
Helping a mother and her children cross the street. Carrying luggage for a fellow commuter as they get into the vehicle. A stranger paying your bill at the counter....
All these are definitions of action done that automatically drive those 'feel-good' hormones straight up to one's brain. Action that causes immeasurable and sometimes unforgettable impact. This is the action we are all about at Joy for Children Uganda. Action that lives longer than any human lifespan.
Our month of May begun with action!
✅ We successfully trained Village Health Teams under the #BLOOM project in data collection, proper HIV testing and care, and the best ways to handle 'patients' that have come looking for a services. Training was also done on proper nutrition for infants, including the right way to prepare it. (Frame 1)
✅ In conjunction with Rotary Club of Kampala, we successfully conducted a medical camp in Katanga, an area situated in the middle of a national referral hospital and a national University. Yet, despite it's prime location, the people living there are suffering from access to basic Water Sanitation and Hygiene services and adequate healthcare. With medical camps such as these, more young mothers get to access healthcare in time and ensure their babies are safe from harm and healthy. (Frame 2)
✅ We visited Bukoto Empower Women's group, located within Bukoto slum. From it's inception 13 years ago, we have supported this group. Now it is self sustaining with a fully fledged catering business and a poultry farm. Because they have been empowered, they strive to empower other women in the area as well. (Frame 3&4)
✅ Together with University Community Fellowship, we have completed a 2-day health camp in Kikoni. This camp was able to reach the vulnerable and often silenced girls in this community. Medication was distributed, counselling was given and most importantly, those who needed further medical treatment were linked to care. (Frame 5&6)
Action!
We look forward to more collaborations towards action, action that triggers only the 'feel-good' hormones.
