The launch will be the first driverless vehicle service of its kind offered in Detroit — and in Michigan — on such a broad scale.
Michigan has one of the most permissive autonomous vehicle frameworks in the country, which paves the way for Waymo to deploy in the city with little oversight. Detroit itself has no rules or regulations for autonomous vehicle companies to follow.
But who is liable if — and when — things go wrong?
