Amul (GCMMF) is expected to invest around ₹650 crore in a large dairy project in West Bengal. The project is likely to improve the state's dairy infrastructure and generate new jobs.
BJP leaders have claimed on social media that this will be Amul’s first fully owned dairy plant in West Bengal, although the government has not yet made an official announcement.
State Animal Resources Development Minister Dilip Ghosh said that more investments could come to West Bengal, as interest from both Indian and foreign investors is increasing.
He also criticized the management of the Haringhata dairy plant and Mother Dairy, alleging that Mother Dairy’s daily milk production has fallen sharply from nearly 6 lakh litres to about 30,000 litres per day.
