Mukesh Ambani Forgoes Salary for Sixth Year, Focuses on Dividends

Asia’s second-richest man, Mukesh Ambani, did not take any salary from Reliance Industries for the sixth consecutive year, according to the company’s latest annual report. Dividends remain his main source of income from the oil-to-telecom-and-retail conglomerate.

Ambani, 69, had capped his annual remuneration at Rs 15 crore between FY09 and FY20. Since FY21, he has chosen to forgo his salary following the Covid-19 pandemic, saying he would continue to do so until the company and its businesses fully returned to their earnings potential.

In FY26, the report showed that Mukesh Ambani received no salary, allowances, perquisites, or retirement benefits from Reliance Industries.

This voluntary decision to forgo remuneration began in June 2020, when Ambani chose to give up his entire salary in view of the severe social, economic, and industrial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the country.
