Human Resources Association Tamilnadu ( HRATN ) has made biometric and facial recognition-based attendance mandatory for all its employees from 1 June, following complaints about staff arriving late to work. The directive, issued by Deputy Secretary S. Thankapappa, requires employees to report before 10 a.m. and verify attendance through biometric authentication, face-ID verification, and manual registers, while wearing official identity cards on duty.
The decision follows instructions from the Principal Secretary to the Government and comes after complaints were received about some staff members allegedly arriving late. The new system layers digital verification on top of existing attendance procedures rather than replacing them.
For now, the order applies only to the Human Resource Management Department and has not been extended to other government departments across Tamil Nadu. Officials said the enhanced framework is intended to improve punctuality and ensure greater accountability within the department.
