Kobold’s Kitchen: $1M Transformation of Former Fat Boy Burgers Site in Creston
A board game cafe has poured $1 million into transforming the former Fat Boy Burgers site in Creston, marking the first new life for the 71-year-old building since the neighborhood stalwart closed in February 2025 after nearly 75 years in business.
Kobold’s Kitchen plans to host a June 3 soft opening after spending the past year gutting and fully renovating the former diner location at 2450 Plainfield Ave. NE. The restaurant, named after a humanoid character from the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, will seat up to 36 people and open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It features a library of more than 800 tabletop games available to play or rent.
The restaurant expects to hold a grand opening in mid-July.
Since getting the keys to the space in April 2026, owner Teo Geiger has been working to renovate and update the building, which was built in 1955.
