Russ Hall, a longtime Forward Global member and co-founder of Legacy Venture and Next Legacy Partners, has spent more than two decades helping philanthropy do what it promises: serve.
In 1999, Russ and his wife Debbie Hall co-founded Legacy Venture, a fund of funds that pooled capital from individuals, invested in top-tier venture funds, and directed all financial returns toward #philanthropy. More than 20 years later, Legacy and its successor, Next Legacy, have returned over $3 billion to charitable causes.
Russ joined Forward Global—then The Philanthropy Workshop—in the early 2000s, finding a community that helped professionalize his approach to giving. "The strongest returns come not just from funding activity, but from investing in the people, systems, and leadership behind the work," he says.
Now entering what he calls "rewirement, not retirement," Russ is stepping back from Next Legacy's operations but not from his purpose. When asked what success looks like now, his answer is simple: "To be a faithful servant. The goal is to finish well."
