The Port of Oakland reported 181,356 TEUs handled in June, up 7.7% year over year, with loaded cargo up 10.3%. Imports and exports both grew, and vessel calls rose from 77 to 81.
Volume is one side of the story. BoxTrack performance data shows what that growth is doing to fluidity on the ground:
📈 Avg vessel wait (arrive to berth) reached 28.3 hours by July 19, the highest in our trailing 60 days and up 65% from late May
📦 Import discharge to gate-out is running 53 hours, 24% above its spring baseline, after peaking at 80 hours in early July
🚢 Total import cycle time is up roughly 30% since late May
↔️ Export gate-in to load dwell is holding steady at 134 hours, in line with trend
Throughput is the port's headline. Dwell is the shipper's reality. Right now they're telling two different stories at Oakland.
