Reflecting on a Successful First Day of Regional Roadshow on Mid North Coast
Thank you to everyone who made yesterday an incredible first day on the Mid North Coast leg of our Regional Roadshow.
We started with a yarn with BEING member Anne, and heard about her personal journey and the meaningful work she is doing in her community. Anne also introduced us to iMob https://bit.ly/3RqIDff - a remarkable initiative that gives Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people the opportunity to have their voices heard through paid surveys, focus groups, and interviews. Exactly the kind of community-led, strengths-based work that inspires us!
We then had the honour of visiting the incredible team at Mission Australia Port Macquarie who shared their very real concerns about the impact of NDIS changes and the gaps these will create for the communities they serve. They also spoke passionately about the need for dedicated services for the queer community, particularly young queer people in the region.
Our day wrapped up with a visit to Mid Coast Connect, where we met Jenny, CEO and Secretary of the Youth Futures network www.yfnetwork.org.au. Jenny's passion for youth mental health and her commitment to more accessible and affordable care, particularly in psychiatry and psychology, was both energising and moving. Jenny has warmly invited our CEO Giancarlo to attend the Youth Futures network meeting in September. This is exactly the kind of connection the Regional Roadshow was made for.
We've got another packed day of activities today, including as guests at a local Sorry Day commemoration, so stay tuned!
