Managing a building is a job description. Advocating for your community is a leadership mandate.
It is incredibly easy to spend our entire careers looking down.
We get so consumed by master schedules, state testing, and the daily operational fires inside our own four walls that we forget to look up.
But true leadership does not stop at the property line.
Our students do not leave their community challenges at the door when the first bell rings, and they don't leave their potential behind when the last bell rings.
If school leaders are not actively advocating for the funding, the mental health resources, and the systemic changes our specific neighborhoods need, we are leaving our most vulnerable kids to fend for themselves.
Advocacy isn't being "too political." It is being entirely professional.
The Coaching Question:
What advocacy efforts could make the greatest difference right now? Are you using your title just to manage the school, or are you using your voice to elevate the community?
