West Coast Port Dwell Drops Sharply; European Ports Face Congestion Issues

West Coast dwell eased sharply last week. Europe moved the other way.

Vizion port performance data shows Long Beach discharge-to-gate-out dwell falling from 4.2 days to 2.1 days, a 50% week-over-week drop. Los Angeles also improved, moving from 2.1 days to 1.9 days. The congestion spike tied to post-May Day vessel bunching appears to have cleared.

At the same time, several European ports tightened:

• Felixstowe: 5.1 to 6.0 days, up 18% WoW
• Hamburg: 5.4 to 5.9 days, up 9% WoW, with CTA terminal rail access disrupted after a shunting incident and yard utilization at 89%
• Rotterdam: 5.8 to 6.3 days, up 9% WoW, with yard utilization at 90% and barge delays of 24 to 48 hours

US imports are down about 8% YoY, so the shift in dwell this week looks less like demand pressure and more like vessel clustering and operational disruption.
