Building Performance: The Importance of Early Thermal Modelling and Shading Strategies

The best façade questions from architects and specifiers aren't about our products. They're about building performance.

What does this façade need to do? What is the cost of not shading it?
These are the questions that tend to separate the most resolved buildings from the rest.

The projects that work share a consistent approach:
• They bring in thermal modelling early on
• Involve façade engineers at concept stage
• Treat solar shading as part of the energy strategy rather than retro fitting

The difference is rarely visible on a drawing. It becomes apparent in occupation. Overheating is slow and costly to correct, the glare is persistent, and HVAC sized without an effective shading strategy will need to work harder and longer than it was ever intended to.

None of this is new thinking. But it is still, surprisingly often, left until it is too late to resolve effectively.

The question that should always be asked:
What is the shading strategy for this building?

We work with architects and façade engineers at exactly that stage.
