Revolutionary Cat Treatment Could Double Lifespan by 2027, Transforming Pet Industries

Your cat could live to 30.

Not a typo, and not science fiction.

Researchers at the University of Tokyo are trialling an injection that targets chronic kidney disease, the single biggest killer of older cats. The treatment works by reactivating a protein called AIM, which cats naturally struggle to switch on. If trials succeed, it could hit the market as early as 2027.

The average house cat lives 12–15 years. This breakthrough could double that.
But the more interesting question isn't biological, it's commercial.

A generation of pets living twice as long would reshape entire industries: pet insurance, premium pet food, veterinary care, even how brands market to pet owners over decades rather than years.

The "pet parent" economy is already worth over $300B globally. Imagine what happens when the relationship lasts 30 years instead of 15.

Would you want your pet to live to 30?
